The 457 kilometre drive begins in Darwin and follows the Arnhem Highway through the Adelaide and Mary River wetlands to Kakadu National Park. It then follows the Kakadu Highway before intersecting the Stuart Highway down to Katherine and Nitmiluk National Park (Katherine Gorge).
Kakadu is home to some of the world's oldest Aboriginal rock art galleries. It can be explored by car or on hundreds of kilometres of marked walking trails. Travellers can cruise the Yellow Water Billabong or the East Alligator River to see birds, animals and crocodiles.
